Ways to Volunteer

Fundraising

Are you hesitant to go to the Society for fear of “wanting to take them all home”? Maybe you would be better suited to assist by helping with our various fundraisers throughout the year. Because the Wiregrass Humane Society is a non profit organization, volunteers are needed to help raise funds to support the operations of our facility. The annual budget for the Wiregrass Humane Society is approximately $170,000. All of this money is used to provide direct care for the over 500 animals that pass through our doors each year. All Society funds come from the community through contributions, membership dues, and special fund raising events. Many volunteers are needed to make these fundraising events successful.

Calendar

The Wiregrass Humane Society publishes the “Best Pets of the Wiregrass” calendar annually. Volunteers are needed each summer to accept calendar photo entries and votes. Volunteers are also needed to sell advertisements and to sell calendars.

Fall Fling

Each fall the Wiregrass Humane Society hosts the Fall Fling Dinner and Silent Auction. Volunteers are needed to help collect auction donations from generous individuals and businesses. Volunteers are also needed to assist with food preparation as well as the facility setup.

Belle of the Wiregrass

Belle of the Wiregrass is a beauty pageant for girls age 4 – 19. Queens are crowned in five different age group categories and the sponsorship category. Queens represent the Wiregrass Humane Society throughout the year by appearing on local television shows with animals available for adoption and by assisting with fundraisers. Volunteers are needed to assist with the pageant preparation and with the pageant administration.

Santa Claws and Paws

For two weekends in the month of December, pet lovers can bring their pets for pictures with "Santa Claws".  Volunteers are needed to assist with photo registration.

Be Kind to Animals T-Shirt Campaign

Each May, the Wiregrass Humane Society participates in the American Humane Association's national 'Be Kind To Animals' week campaign by selling T-Shirts to area businesses.  Each year features a new T-Shirt design.  Volunteers are needed to help with solicitation and delivery of the T-Shirts.
