Lost and Found

If you have recently lost your pet or if a stray has wandered onto your property, you may call the Wiregrass Humane Society for assistance. At our facility, we maintain a bulletin board of lost and found pets to try to facilitate lost pets being reunited with their owners. Please call us at 334-792-6693 with the details of the pet that is lost or found. We will attempt to match it with any information we may have. If no match is found, the information is posted on our bulletin board in hopes that matching information will be forthcoming.

In addition to contacting the Wiregrass Humane Society when an animal is lost or found, we also recommend that you call the City of Dothan Animal Control Division to determine if your pet has been picked up by an animal control officer. They may be reached at 334-615-4620.

To help prevent the possibility of being separated from your pet, please make sure your pet wears a collar with a current rabies tag as well as an identification tag with the pet’s name as well as the owner’s name, address, and phone number. If you move, remember to update your pet’s tag with your current information.

Pet owners may also want to consider microchip technology. Pets can have microchips inserted under their skin. These chips contain information about ways to contact the owners in instances when pets have been separated. Most animal shelters and animal control facilities use scanners on animals that are being accepted to their facility to determine if a microchip has been implanted. See your local veterinarian for details on this procedure.

Lost and misplaced pets contribute heavily to the pet overpopulation in our area. Any steps that can be taken to prevent lost pets will also help eliminate our pet overpopulation problem.
