Are you ready to adopt?

Because it will change two lives forever – yours and your new companion – you need to make sure that now is the right time to adopt. To help you decide, ask yourself and your family the following questions:

* Do you or anyone in your family have an animal allergy? If so, consult your physician before adopting. Animals with little to no shedding may be acceptable.

* Is everyone in your family prepared to endure the tribulations of puppies and kittens such as housebreaking/litterbox training, chewing, digging, barking, and scratching?

* Are you willing to dedicate the necessary time and resources for puppy or dog obedience training? Many pet owners are able to enjoy their pets more after they have been trained.

* Will your family’s schedule allow enough time to provide the care, love, and attention a pet needs every day?

* Will your budget allow for the added expenses of pet food, toys, annual vet exams, vaccinations, monthly heartworm preventative, flea control, unexpected medical costs, grooming, training, and boarding the pet when you travel?

* If considering a puppy, will you be able to arrange for midday visits since puppies need to go out every 4 hours or so to become housebroken?

* Do you travel frequently: if so, how will you provide care for your new companion?

* If you rent, does your landlord allow pets?

* Do you have a fenced yard?

* Can you make the commitment to care for this animal for his or her lifetime?

Which pet is right for you?

How do I adopt?

Did you see an animal you are interested in? If you would like to see this animal or any of the others at our facility, visit us during our regular business hours (See Location/Hours). Our friendly staff will assist you and answer any questions you may have. You will be asked to fill out an adoption application which will be reviewed by our staff. Our standard adoption fee is $75.00. All animals adopted from our facility have been either spayed or neutered and are current on vaccinations. Copies of the animal’s medical record and rabies vaccination certificate are provided to each adopter. In addition, each animal adopted receives one free checkup from Southeast Alabama Veterinary Clinic. All adopters receive an Adoption Gift Bag which includes instructional training videos, pet food samples, coupons, and an assortment of other Welcome Home items.
